Naturopathic Physical Medicine

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

101 CRANIO-SACRAL I work has not been given enough acknowledgment by traditional medicine to the role that the 8 cranial bones play in maintaining good physical and emotional health. The technique enables practitioners to perform cranial examinations and determine and correct cranial imbalances. The first level gives the 10 step foundation and protocol for all contemporary Cranio-Sacral theory.

102 LYMPHATIC MASSAGE is a system of massage that drains the lymphatic system through specific movements and a specific sequence. This system of massage was greatly promoted by Harold Reilly and Edgar Cayce. Lymphatic massage stimulates and removes toxins from the body so that it will heal itself. Students will be instructed in indications as well as contraindications for lymphatic massage.

103 NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY is the soft tissue manipulation which emphasizes the relationship of muscle, fascia, and connective tissue. NMT was founded by Andrew Still who believed that fascia is the place to look for the cause of disease and the place to begin the action of remedies. Extensive work will be done for assessment purposes and contraindications given. Student must pass with a grade of 70% or more on their performance on members of the community and on their written examination.

203 TMJ WORKSHOP will use an array of tools to assess and treat problems associated with the jaw, temporalis muscle and sinus cavities. Several techniques will be taught which can be performed alone or used in conjunction with other body centered therapeutic approaches. The study will include the muscular, skeletal and cranial anatomy pertinent to facilitating release of “TMJ”, related dysfunction, and contraindications. (Pre-requisite: NMT I)

104 POLARITY THERAPY I is an introductory class dealing with the currents of energy which flow within and around the human body. Polarity maintains that these energy fields must be balanced in order to maintain health. How and where energy is blocked or not in balance and how to restore the balance will be taught in this class.

204 POLARITY THERAPY II will offer a more in depth look into polarity, the element system, and specific treatments for various problems. (Pre-requisite: Polarity Therapy I)

105 SHIATSU means "finger pressure" in Japanese. This well-known method uses a firm sequence of rhythmic pressure held on acupuncture channels. Shiatsu can produce excellent results as the deep pressure releases the stiffness and improves the muscle tone and circulation. Students will learn the basics of working the channels and any contraindications.

106 TUI-NA I is classical TCM acupressure. It involves the use of special hand techniques or tools to stimulate the acupoints or the meridians, the energy pathways along which the acupoints are located and through which Qi flows. Tuina is a medical treatment and is different than massage because it works on the energy level of the body and not solely on the muscles and tissues. Though different than acupuncture, tuina can be just as effective. For some conditions, like sports injuries and simple sprains, it is more useful and easier on the client. Tuina requires more physical strength and technical skill than acupuncture. This first class teaches the 14 meridians, massage strokes, major acupoints, contraindications and the basic acupressure sequence.

206 TUI-NA II continues to instruct in more advanced massage techniques, how to use the acupoints for structural disorders with additional acupoints being incorporated into the basic routine given in Tui-Na I. Also covered will be how to perform an acupressure face lift. The students will be evaluated by the public at the end of the class. (Pre-requisite: Tui-Na I)

306 TUI-NA III will begin each session with a short session of Qi Gong. The class gives the student advanced and intense techniques in handling chronic and severe disabilities dealing with both internal and external symptoms. In addition, the student will learn how to moxa, how to perform pediatric massage, about the eight extra ordinary vessels, and Dan Tian evaluation. (Pre-requisite: Tui-Na II)
